Our Tradition |
We live in a time when words like “tradition” seem dated. Yet for us, our tradition animates our present and informs our future. Ours is a tradition of love, of service, of worship, and of hope. These are, to us, timeless values that we long to offer in a world of rapid change and ambiguous convictions.
Methodism began as a movement within the Church of England in the 18th century. Its founders believed that God’s love is for everyone, not just the rich, and brought preaching outside of the church walls to laborers in England and later to other countries and to the colonies here on this continent. The Methodist Church was born from this passionate movement to share God with all people, not just those who attended church, and it flourished through small group prayer, study and encouragement in faith. Methodists believed from the outset that lives can be profoundly changed through a relationship with God in Jesus Christ. |
The Bible
United Methodists share with all Christians the call to serve God and neighbor. We share a common sacred “book of books,” the Bible, and seek to apply spiritual truths from the Bible to our everyday life in a thoughtful and discerning manner

Holy Communion
We share a common sacred meal that we call Holy Communion or Holy Eucharist that unites us spiritually with Jesus Christ and with one another and Christians around the world.

Baptism & Confirmation
Baptism is a milestone on our faith journey, and the opportunity for Confirmation in the Christian faith is provided. We baptize children, youth and adults. If you are interested in being baptized, contact the Pastor or call the church office at (914) 698-4343.
